It's Hairball Awareness Week and Catladyland has a FURminator Giveaway!

Everyone who lives with a cat knows the yakking sound that announces the arrival of a hairball. It's like the fanfare of a trumpet announcing royal visitors at a fancy party ... only way less fancy. And it's pretty uncomfortable for kitty, too.

Did you know that Friday, April 26 is Hairball Awareness Day? Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing! And FURminator is here to help us learn more about hairball prevention. A cat spends 30% of his life grooming. I think 65% of the rest is nap-related. When kitty is grooming, 2/3 of his fur can be ingested. Cats can digest lots of things, but hair isn't one of them. When hair accumulates in the stomach, hairballs occur. These are uncomfortable and can even cause intestinal obstructions!

Regularly grooming your cat can help prevent those pesky hairballs. FURminator is a deShedding tool and my grooming device of choice. I've used it for a few years and, even on my short-haired cats, it removes an insane amount of hair! Using the FURminator tool to remove the cat's undercoat 1-2 times a week can reduce up to 90% of shedding and hairballs. Cool!

Cats aren't the only ones getting in on National Hairball Awareness Day. FURminator video-captured humans imitating their cats hacking up a hairball. It's all for the cause, people.
