A Life Spent With Cats is Never Wasted

This morning I opened my eyes to one cat loafed on my belly, one hogging my pillow, and one trapping my feet under the covers. And guess what? I wouldn't have it any other way. I woke up smiling and even giggling a little bit. I'll tell ya, it's even better than the warm feeling you get waking from a spicy Johnny Depp dream. My cats are such a part of my life; I can't imagine a cat-less existence.

Seriously, I wouldn't know how to...

  • visit the loo alone.
  • walk down the steps without tripping on tails.
  • wear clothing that doesn't sport a layer of fur.
  • use the can opener (to open a can of soup for me) without summoning a herd of felines who think that every crunch of the can opener must result in something for for them.

See? I must have cats in order to live the lifestyle to which I've become accustomed. I know I'm preachin' to the choir here, but pets make life so much richer and keep us happier, healthier, and saner human beings! No one knows this better than a campaign called Pets Add Life (PAL). Their mission is to spread the word about responsible pet ownership and joys and benefits of sharing our lives with pets, thus increasing adoption. Pretty wonderful mission, huh? I thought you might agree.

Like humans, our animal companions enjoy friendship and interaction with others. This is why I chose to share my life with more than one cat. With three fuzzbutts, there's always someone with which to snuggle, chase, or play. And they have such different personalities, which means there's never a dull moment!

Saffy is 11 and has the sweetest demeanor. She's a total daddy's girl and loves to tease us with her exposed belly. I think she looks like a delicious, cream-filled eclair.

Cosmo is my handsome ten-year-old tuxie-boy. He looks cranky, but loves nothing more than to curl up under the covers with me an purr-drool all over the sheets. He's a dream.

Phoebe rules the roost. She just turned seven and tips the scale at a whoppin' six pounds. She's feisty, mouthy, and usually gets what she wants, mostly because she's so stinking cute.

So you can see I'm a believer in PAL's initiative and am excited to help them bring their message to the masses. I know I wouldn't be the person I am today (and you wouldn't have this blog to read) if not for the presence of my feline family. And in a world where sometimes we'd rather claim our animal family over our human one, we are blessed beyond compare. I mean, really...is your cat going to drink too much at Thanksgiving and toss around old grievances? Will your cat judge your choice in romantic partner? How many times does your cat make you feel guilty about not attending Crazy Aunt Martha's 7th wedding? In a word, NEVER.

At this point, you are probably thinking, "I'm totally on board with this mission! PAL rocks! How can I help this campaign?" Good thing you came to visit today because I have some answers for you.

And stay tuned for some fun PAL videos supporting the joy and benefits of a life spent with pets! Now a question for you: How do your animal companions make your life richer?

This post is sponsored by the Pets Add Life Campaign and the American Pet Products Association. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the benefits and joys of pet ownership.
