Hair Ye, Hair Ye! Who Wants to Win a FURminator?

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED

Me, hopping in the night
Friends, it's National Hairball Awareness Day. I almost forgot and then Saffy reminded me at 12:30am with that tell-tale hack-hack-hacking sound coming from an undisclosed location. The musical stylings of Patsy Cline flooded my sleepy brain as I, in my jammies and bare feet, searched for the hidden hairball-shaped landmine. "I go out walking, after midnight...eeek!!" That's the sound of me stepping on the hairball. Hop-hop-hop... And that's the sound of me hopping on one foot to the bathroom to rinse my foot in the tub. I've sometimes wondered if it would be better to step on a fresh, warm hairball or a morning-after cold one. My answer every time is a pretty solid NEITHER. In fact, as much as I dislike the whole hairball situation, it's even more uncomfortable for the cat who expels the fuzzy lump.

Enter The FURminator! Come on, wave your paws in the air, like you just don't care. But wait, you DO care! If you've never used this insanely productive de-shedding tool, I'm here to attest to its magical powers. Saffy has an advanced degree in shedding; I think the fancy name for it is a MFE (Master's in Fur Emission). She has it framed and hanging above her litter box; come over if you want to see it. Anyway, I should probably walk around with a holstered lint roller and FURminator. I constantly fleece the couch and my clothing of stray fur and regularly FURminate the Saffster. Thanks to the tool, the midnight hairball shenanigans are few and far between. She is happier and my feet remain cozy and warm in bed.

The FURminator!!
Although coughing up hairballs may be a fairly common occurrence in some household with cats, it can become a dangerous situation for kitty. Hairballs happen when a cat grooms herself and swallows fur. The fur creates a mass (that sometimes includes food and a coating of mucous) that is uncomfortable and can actually cause impaction in the digestive system, resulting in surgery. To help prevent stress and discomfort related to hairballs, it is extremely important to regularly brush cats to remove the dad undercoat before it is swallowed. According to FURminator, as much as 2/3 of the cat's undercoat can be swallowed during self-grooming! This is exactly why The FURminator is the ideal grooming tool. It's a veterinarian-recommended, groomer-designed de-shedding device that reduces shedding up to 90%. Purrfect!

Wolf Blitzfur, my hairball celebrity creation
In honor of National Hairball Awareness Day, FURminator hosted a celebrity-themed FUR creature contest. They invited pet bloggers to create a celebrity look-alike using FURminated cat fur as one of the materials. The winner receives a $1,000 donation to the pet charity organization of their choice, with the four runners-up receiving $250 in FURminator tools given to their chosen pet charity. Of course I was absolutely wigged out about this opportunity. Seriously, I was more than just a hair excited about it. Like the hair humor? I thought you might. Since Saffy has grey fur, I felt like I needed to choose a celebrity of the silver-haired persuasion. After a trip to the craft store and a Furmination, CNN Furporter Wolf Blitzfur was born.

Unfortunately, Wolf wasn't chosen as one of the finalists, but bloggers submitted many clever creations! You can view the entire gallery here.

The generous folks at FURminator sent me a brand new tool designed for short-haired cats over 10 lbs (a $50.99 value). Since I already have a FURminator, I am thrilled to give the new one away (it's the one pictured above) to a lucky Catladyland reader! In order to qualify, please follow the guidelines.

You MUST comment with your e-mail address and a caption to the following photo of Saffy with her pile of FURmination output. See other important details below.
