On Catladyland we offer cool giveaways from time to time and, my friends, this one is extra-super-cool! It's an Oreck DualMax air purifier ($399.00 value). The nice people at Oreck know people who live with animal companions sometimes deal with issues concerning....smell. They asked if we'd like to try the DualMax and we were excited to say YES!
First of all, I have to say I am hopeless when it comes to directions. With this air cleaner, all I basically had to do was open the box and plug it in (of course I read the manual first). Seriously, even I can handle that.
For several days we used the sleek, attractive purifier in the living room area, where the cats also have their cat tree and play space and then we moved it to the litter box zone. One of the great things about the DualMax is the three-speed settings button (and a nifty little remote control). In our living space we used the medium-speed and in the kitty-loo we used the high-speed, which, surprisingly, wasn't very noisy. I also liked the blue night-light feature, which is adjustable (off/dim/bright). If it were to be placed in a bedroom, I can see where this would prevent a midnight toe-stub!
Our house is a major dust-magnet and I avoid dusting unless guests are due to arrive. While the purifier was in the living room I definitely noticed less dust when I dragged my finger across the coffee table. You know when the sun shines through the window and you can see the sparkly dust pieces floating in the air, gentle as the first snowfall in winter? Less of that too. The litter area is in our laundry room so whenever we are throwing a load in the washer, we enter the cat-poo zone. Sometimes the smell is more fragrant than other times, but I could tell a difference in the sharpness of the smell when the odor-reducing purifier was on "duty" (hee hee).
Ohhh....guess what else? You don't have to replace filters! Both the pre-filter (which filters the larger pieces) and the Truman Cell Filter (which handles the smaller pieces) are easily removed and cleaning is a snap. You just run them under water and allow them to air-dry. That's a cost-savings, plus a bonus for the environment!
